LEEDS TRAVEL AGENCY RE-INVENTS SAYING “HELLO”
A Leeds travel agency is leading the way this winter by providing holidaymakers / online users with a 21st Century alternative to the postcard.
Recent research from ABTA of 3,000 UK adults revealed that just over half (59 per cent) of holidaymakers continue to send postcards, preferring instead to send digital messages such as texts and e-mail.
In a further indictment of the traditional postcard, the results of a survey of youngsters aged between five and fifteen released by Teletext showed that less than half (46 per cent) of youngsters send a postcard whilst on holiday, preferring digital media and social networking.
Morgan Travel, which has a branch in Guiseley, Leeds, has seized the opportunity provided by the demise of the postcard and launched a new website – www.diy-hols.com - which allows holidaymakers to upload video footage and photos and send an e-postcard to family and friends.
DIY Holidays Director Paul Higgins explained: “Virtually everyone travelling abroad takes some form of digital media with them, and in most cases this is a mobile phone.
“With nearly all mobile phones equipped with cameras, it has never been easier to take video and photos. All that was needed was a way of sending these to family and friends in a simple and easy-to-use way. Our new website provides the solution.”
Visitors to the website can use the e-postcard for FREE by using their home PC, they can also register to have their own online library account for uploading their media.
UK users can also use the mobile phone service which provides them with a unique user number and name which allows holidaymakers to MMS text their holiday snaps and videos to the website.
There is a small cost of 25p to use this service plus their standard network charge per text message.
“We’ve only just launched the site,” continued Paul, “but we’re confident that holidaymakers are going to sign up in their thousands, you can even use the tool as a way of sending Christmas / birthday greetings, send an invitation or just to say hello with some unique content. This really is the future of the postcard, ”
